Virtual Presentation from the Truman Library Institute - MacArthur's Gamble: Remembering the Inchon Landing
Members are invited to join the Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation in celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Inchon landing, considered one of the most daring and consequential operations of the Korean War.
On the evening of September 24, 2025, the Foundation will be open to members between the hours of 7:00PM and 9:00PM for a live virtual presentation from the Truman Library Institute about the Inchon Landing in the Korean War. “On September 15, 1950, United Nations forces under the command of General Douglas MacArthur launched an amphibious assault at the port city of Inchon, behind North Korean lines. Executed against overwhelming logistical odds—including massive tidal swings, narrow channels and fortified defenses—the landing succeeded in retaking Seoul and breaking the North Korean stranglehold on the southern peninsula. General MacArthur himself called it a “5,000-to-1 gamble.” Inchon was more than a tactical success; it was a strategic masterpiece that ignited real, if guarded, optimism. Ultimately, however, the amphibious landing would be the first of only a few unqualified victories in the state action we know as the Korean War.”
“Now, one of America’s most prominent military historians, John C. McManus, joins historian Jason Parker just days after the Inchon anniversary to explore the conflict in Korea. This is storytelling at its most thrilling, with dramatic tales of heroism and courage, victory and stalemate.”
