Truman Art Series - Plein Aire Paint & Sip with President Truman's Descendants

Wednesday, June 30, 2027

Plein Aire Paint & Sip with artists Polly and Wesley Daniel and special guest Clifton Truman Daniel.

Bring your own painting supplies and we will provide you with an authentic 1911 roof tile from the Little White House to use as your canvas. Get painting advise from Polly and Wesley Daniel – wife and son of Clifton Truman Daniel, Grandson of President Truman, and mingle with Clifton as he regales us all with amusing stories about his grandparents.

Wesley Truman Daniel is a Chicago-based art teacher and Great Grandson of Harry S. Truman. When he is not teaching, he is a commission-based muralist and painter known for vibrant, surrealist, and bold geometric pop art, often infused with humor. While this style defines much of his public work, his full portfolio spans a wide range of mediums, including graphic design, screen printing, and traditional oil painting.

Wesley has been creating and selling art for over twenty years, a journey that began in the fourth grade by selling Pokémon sketches to his classmates. He is thrilled to be hosting his 3rd painting event at the Little White House

Polly Bennett-Daniel likes to say that she “dabbles in miniatures.” In the 1980s in Wilmington, NC, she created earrings of handmade porcelain. More recently, she began painting miniature portraits of beloved pets and family homes. Many of these she designed as Christmas tree ornaments and refrigerator magnets. Her miniature paintings of Harry and Bess Truman’s home in four seasons are the artwork for a series of greeting cards produced and sold by the Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Independence, MO. She is married to Clifton Truman Daniel. The couple has three sons, including Wesley.

Clifton Truman Daniel

Clifton Truman Daniel, born June 5, 1957, is the eldest grandson of President Harry S. Truman and First Lady Bess Truman. He is the son of author Margaret Truman and journalist Clifton Daniel, and grew up between New York City and visits to Independence, Missouri, where he developed a deep connection to his grandparents’ legacy. Despite his famous family, Daniel’s childhood was intentionally kept grounded; President Truman was known for treating his grandchildren like any other kids, emphasizing humility and responsibility.

As an adult, Daniel built a career in communications and public service. He worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, then later became director of public relations for Truman College in Chicago. In addition to his professional work, he has devoted significant energy to preserving and sharing the Truman legacy. Daniel has written and spoken extensively about his grandparents, offering personal insights into the 33rd president’s life and character. He also serves as an honorary chairman of the board of the Truman Library Institute, supporting educational and historical programs.

In recent years, Daniel has expanded his public engagement through acting and storytelling. He has portrayed President Truman on stage and has participated in historical reenactments and public programs that bring Truman-era history to life. His work continues to blend education, performance, and personal memory, allowing him to honor his family while helping new generations connected with the history and values of President Truman’s era.

The event will take place on the lawn of the beautiful Harry S. Truman Little White House located at 111 Front St.
