Little White House History

Originally constructed in 1890 as naval officers’ housing, The Harry S. Truman Little White House is the State of Florida’s only presidential site. Throughout President Truman’s storied tenure as the leader of our great Nation, he found himself returning to the Conch Republic home for warm getaways during cold winters. Discover the fascinating history of this legendary location.

Owned by the State of Florida, The Harry S. Truman Little White House is the only presidential museum in the State of Florida. The Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation supports preservation of the historic house, programming and community outreach with contributions from our membership, state and local government support and donations. Through these efforts, we are working towards restoration of the house and its furnishings to the 1949 period of historic significance. The site’s rich history is well documented and with support will continue to serve as our community, both locally and globally.
